How to film your walkthrough

10 to 20 minutes for most homes. The better the video, the more complete your inventory.

  1. Lights on, blinds open. Dark frames hide brands and details.
  2. Phone horizontal, move slowly: about one step every two seconds.
  3. Say each room name out loud as you walk in ("kitchen", "kids' bedroom").
  4. Go clockwise around each room.
  5. Open every closet, drawer and cabinet for a second or two. Clothes, kitchenware and tools are where value hides.
  6. Get close to serial labels on TVs, computers, appliances and power tools; hold still two seconds.
  7. Mention expensive items out loud with a rough price or year if you know it.
  8. Don't skip the garage, attic, basement, shed, patio and laundry room.
  9. Jewelry, art, collectibles: show them clearly. They often have separate policy limits.
  10. Several clips are fine. Upload them all on your private page, or share a folder link.

Skip anything you'd rather not film (a home office, a safe). Tell us in the notes box which rooms you skipped.
